One Snowy Texas Day

Whew....I can hardly catch my breath. Today has been a day. Here in Texas, we are not used to a lot of severe winter weather. We are used to a lot sun and a temperature no colder than about 30. Well lately we have experienced a lot of rain and cold temperatures. Today we have had nearly 11 inches of snow and it was just above freezing. Although it's been snowing all day and its expected to continue well into the night. Temps will drop below freezing so all of that snow will probably freeze overnight. And for us Texans, snow and ice is not normal for us. 2 inches of snow will close businesses and schools, just imagine 11 inches, lol.

So I was supposed to have a job interview at a company that's a good 30 miles from my home. Well the snow was pretty bad and I couldn't make it. I was originally supposed to interview on Wednesday when the weather was clear, but they decided to reschedule for Thursday. Though all the news stations have been reporting it would snow on Thursday. Go figure. So this was disaster #1.

Disasters #2-5:
The power went out in my complex for 2 hours. I then found out my entire city was without power! Most people for over 2 hours. Because the power was out, no one could enter or exit the apartments because the access gates wouldn't open due to the power being out.So I was going to head to a relatives home so that I wouldn't freeze while the power was out. Well I managed to get most of the snow off of my car. Because I stayed home all day my car and the space immediately surrounding it, was completely covered in snow. I didn't have a shovel, so I had to make due with what I had. I used an old trash can to shovel the snow from behind my car so that I would be able to back my car out. Well apparently I didn't do a great enough job at shoveling the snow because my car got stuck in the snow 5 times just trying to get out the complex. Each time it got stuck, I had to get out of the car and shovel snow so that my car would move. This went on for about 2 hours. After being drenched in snow and freezing cold, I determined this wasn't going to get me anywhere. I sat in my car for a minute thinking. So just then the power came on. Then 5 minutes later it went back off. So I continued to try and use my make shift shovel to shovel the snow away from my car. About 20 minutes later the power finally came back on. Thank God!

Now all of my groceries won't have to spoil. And....most importantly...I won't freeze without heat. So what could have been a nice snow day in...turned into disasters 1-5.

Stay tuned. The snow is supposed to freeze. I'm sure I will have more great adventures tomorrow!
